OK.......I had a revelation today that seems to make sense to me.
Here in the Phoenix Valley lies an issue that happens at the start of every winter and continues until the spring - it's called BROWN CLOUD. Apparently there is not enough wind in the winter through spring time to blow the hazardous materials that burn from people's fireplaces. I guess 6 months of 120 degrees isn't enough for most people so they need to burn wood in their fireplaces for heat. There are certain days when it is illegal to have a fire roaring in your fireplace but I don't think that's enough.
That got me thinking...what is the point of BURNING wood in the fireplace?? It's not for warmth because there are many other ways to get warm or make your house warm. I don't understand the whole concept. It's the 21st century now and our ozone layer and rainforests are depleting; so we cut down trees so you can have a smokey fire in your living room? Wood is actually imported into Phoenix because there are no real trees here to cut down for firewood.
There is no longer a need to burn wood. It is a waste of this planets resources and I know this might sound radical, but I think burning wood or anything for that matter in your fireplace should be illegal. It's just simply not practical anymore for many reasons.
So, those are my thoughts on that.

I agree...even in Hilo when I lived up at the volcano it can be very cold...29 in the morning. So, we would start a fire...BUT, it was not wood. It was propane or the use of electric heaters. We lived around so many trees but, never burned them. I hope things get better...and we as a country need to learn to use better sources of fuel!!! We are one of the most wasteful countries in the world!
I do agree with you; however I have a gas fireplace that I do burn in the winter. I only burn it for a few hours at night for warmth in our living room, but I am guilty. We turn it on only when it is cold and we turn it off once it gets warm in the room. Funny how you are so interested in global warming yet you own an SUV
It is funny how people beat you down for some of the issues you try to tackle. I know not everyone can commit to 100% to recycling, global warning, against animal testing,be for animal rights etc.... but what you can do counts!!! If eveybody thought if they can't do it ALL don't do anything at all!! I feel that YOU stand strong for whatever you believe and I know one of your goals (and mine )are to get a more EARTH FRIENDLY vehicle. So our vehicles that we drive shouldn't stop us from continuing fixing things that may affect future generations to come. So whether you exchange your vehicle for a more EARTH friendly one or stop supporting logging by discontinuing the use of firewood we can all support each other because this is OUR PLANET!!!
